Do you still use your kit lens?

Here i mean mostly the DA L 18-55mm

I was thinking about upgrading it to a Sigma 17-70mm, but felt it was kind of a shame if I never touch the 18-55 again...

Yes, when I go to the beach and it may get stolen or wrecked. I use it on a cheapo body as well. Have 3 or 4 of kit lenses.

Use only the DA 18-55 WR now ...

Bonjour,

I got a DA L bundled with the K-r that I bought in Jan. 2011, and didn't like it at all ... not sharp and no Quickshift ... plus no hood?!

I had previously a DA 18-55 AL "I", so I used it some with the K-r.

I now use a K-5 and surprising a lot with a DA 18-55 WR ... because of the WR to go everywhere and to protect the K-5 body in unfriendly environments.

I would not feel bad about abandoning the DA L if I were you ... I am now trying to sell/trade the DA L and the DA "I" ...

Allez et salut, John le Frog

I got the 16-50 for my K-5, and I still use the kit lens (the WR version) every now and then on the K-x. It's so small, light and sharp that I still find myself reaching for it if I'm not 100% sure I want to lug around the DA* lenses all day.

That said the K-5 and the 16-50 isn't all that heavy, and fits in my bag perfectly so this doesn't happen too often.

I could never stand the DA-L version, it was just too plasticky for me. But it is very light.

Yes, this lens could be an asset in these conditions ... inexpensive and expendable, too. A+, J

Well I did upgrade to the WR version of it but yes I do. It works very well on my IR converted K100ds.

If I were to choose a pink K-r over any of the other colors, it would be precisely because that is one of the few colors in which the lens and body are matched. Well, that is what I have been pointing out to my wife. Now, if the green body came with a green lens, we would have bought that combo for her long ago.

Anyhow, I have the 18-135 which is only a little larger than the 18-55, and the DA 15 Ltd and DA 25 Ltd for compactness. But I occassionally do use the 18-55 because it really is so compact, while maintaining a reasonably decent normal zoom range, and without sacrificing IQ in walkaround shots. Mine is the 18-55 II WR version, but yours should have similar decent IQ yet be even lighter. So, I would suspect you will still use it .... especially to make the occasional fashion statement. :-)

Yep. Use it a lot. It's a pretty decent lens & I get good results with it.

I don't have either of my early kit lenses (DAL or DAL2), but i kept my 18-55WR as it is the only WR lens I own and yes i still use it. If I was to buy a 16-50 or other WR kit lens replacement then i would sell it off.

The 18-55 is the lens I tend to use when on a trip. I am probably going to get the WR for new K-5. When I sell the K-x the lens will go with it. I don't want to use a white lens on a black body, people will think I'm a Canon user

And when the time for me to upgrade to k-5, I certainly won't use a pink lens on black.... (However using black lenses on pink is fine)
