Pentax K-r connecting to a Sunpak 383

Hello, I'm usually fairly savvy at figuring these things out, but the info out there on this matter seems fairly limited!

I have a Pentax K-r, and I have managed to bag myself a fair bargain and purchased a Sunpak 383. I'm a little concerned about connecting this flash unit to my camera because there is no PC port on the K-r, and the only sync cable I have found that would connect the two devices (using a hot shoe to PC adapter) is only 11 inches long.

I have however located this cable : Camera Hotshoe Adapter with 5 Meter Cord and Flash Hotshoe Adapter (Item #0146) which is 5 meters long. Would this work connecting a 383 to the Pentax K-r? I can't see why not, but I thought I should check!

Thanks for any help, if you need any more information just let me know!

I would strongly recommend using radio triggers rather than a cable. They can be had cheaply from ebay.

Yes, off camera flash is the reason why I need some form of cable. Thanks for the advise on radio triggers, I will look into that. Meanwhile, would that second cable do the job if all else fails?
