CAMERA; Pentax K-R
When the camera is turned on with a fresh battery the shutter begins snapping.
(Like it is taking pictures in burst mode.)
No pictures are taken and no blue (power light) comes on.
Pushing any button on the camera causes the shutter to snap.
This behavior started seconds after successful shooting.
The camera was purchased just months ago (in March) and has been working properly up to this point.
This is my second Pentax and the first time this I have experienced this behavior.

What kind of lens are you using?

the lens I am using is the lens that came with the camera, it is a smc Pentax DAL (18-55)
I apologize for not responding sooner but I was traveling and just arrived back home from my step daughters college graduation
(without the pictures I planned to take unfortunately).

Your camera needs a warranty repair, this is a known issue for K-r's and more commonly for K-5's. Sometimes refered to as the "mirror flop" issue.
