Time Photography

I used a ISTDS and a K-200 for taking time exposures- up to 180 seconds using the bulb setting along with a cable release. Looking in the manual & at the camera there is no option for the locking release just the IR one. Reading the info on Amazon.com on the IR releases say that none of them are locking and that the focus feature is disabled. Is this correct? If so how do I take the long exposures as I have to paint with light sometimes and move away from the camera.

The IR remote drive mode allows you to use the remote to "toggle" shutter (one press to open and another to close the shutter). I'm sure the K-r does this because it did on my K-x - can't remember if you have to change a menu setting to get this or not (possibly by default).

Thanks, I've ordered one and have not recieved it. but this helps as I wasn't looking foward to using two different cameras at a scene.

Yes. It is a menu option - Custom, page 3 #15. Default is press to open, press again to close; alternate is to press and hold for duration of exposure.

If you would rather use a more traditional style of remote release with the K-r, look here. The same in-camera menu options still apply.

Got my model C remote ( no instructions came with it) in and I couldn't get it to work. Til I looked her in the foruom and read some suggestions then looked in the manual for more instructions. Thanks for the help. It will focus by remote as well. Only thing is you have to point at the front of the camera. To take photos with K-200 it was quicker to set up bulb and the remote but didn't do as much as the KR. Have both and will use both. Probably sell my IST.
