filters

I have a k-r pentax with lens 55mm-80mm. My husband bought me a Hoya 55mm pro digital filter but it doesn't fit. The inside of the lens says 52mm. Is this the actual size I need? And what brand is recommended?

Thanks
Erica

Yes, 52mm is the size you need. Do not worry though. I would just go online and pick up a cheap 52mm-to-55mm step-up ring. This will thread onto your 52mm lens and then you can screw the 55mm filter onto it. You should be able to get one for a couple bucks. If you are talking about what brand of filter is recommended, then Hoya is a good one (especially the pro stuff). B+W and Heliopan are also excellent.

yeah, but she would have to buy a 55mm front cap too, for a tele zoom which doesn't need a larger filter, if possible just return and get a 52mm, end of story

Not to mention possible problems mounting a hood.

IMO, No. I use them with the glass removed because I prefer the old style 51mm push on caps on the 21, 40, 50 (1.4 A) and 28.

I use a clear filter as a lens protector. I get into some situations where i'm having to climb or other things and have banged the lens breaking the filter instead of the lens. If you are never going to be accidently banging your camera you don't need the filter. I use clored filters in my work to photograph certain processes or light sources ( IR, UV, Blue,Green, & chemicals) I have 5 different color filters for use and I buy the right size for each lens ,52 for my 18-55 & 55 for my macro. Hoya is a good brand.
