Firmware 1.13 update stopped AF working on one lens only

Hi everyone,
I've recently updated my firmware to 1.13. All seems OK, but there seem to be issues "recognising" my sigma DG 70-300.
Each time I put the lens on and turn on the camera, it asks me to "input focal length" and AF won't work. There is no AF switch on the lens.
It didn't used to do this and the standard kit Pentax 18-55 works fine.
I can't see any settings, etc and have looked in the forums and elsewhere for a solution.
Is it the camera, lens or an I doing something wrong.
Look forward to replies.

Check contacts for dirt and check aperture ring position. What camera are you using? I have the same lens and have not had any issues on my K-5.

Thanks Mark.

Just wondering if anyone else has a possible solution to this?

I've now upgraded to the next firmware 1.14 and same issue.

Have had camera and lens to local camera repair and the lens works fine on other Pentax bodies. He has had some replies to emails across his global Pentax technical contacts who say this is a known but random issue which seems to impact different lenses but not many and not consistently. Another Sigma DG zoom may work fine.

Thanks in advance.

If there is any play in the mount it could go back to the earlier suggestion about the contacts.
Perhaps with your body and lens combo the tolerances are off just enough that the contacts don't line up.

You could try tightening the lens and camera mount screws but since it sounds like you have had it in for repair I'm sure the shops have done that if you gave them both camera and lens.

It may be time to cut your losses and sell this lens and get a replacement.

I have not heard of firmware affecting one lens like this.

Thanks for that. Yeah I hunk you are right. I can get a replacement for around $100 so that may be the way to go.
