Old lenses and Kr compatibility

I purchased a Pentax Kr last year. A deciding factor was being told that old lenses were compatible with this camera. I have new lenses, but would like to use some of of my old lenses too. My old (30+ years) lenses are Kiron 28mm F/2, Kiron 80-200 F/4.5, and Pentax 1:1.7 50mm. When I attach these lenses to my new digital, F_ _ comes up in the viewfinder and flashes. Can anyone help me out with this issue, as to why this happens. Was I given correct information regarding old lenses and the Kr? Thank you for any help.

Pre-A lenses need some configuration changes. It's all described at:

These are fine lenses, and are applicable and very usable on your Kr. For example, the 50/1.7 is a classic and is well regarded amongst users here. You can get a sense of the quality of these manual lenses on the various 'lens club' threads in this forum.

Enjoy!

  • The F___ occurs because your camera has detected a lens without A-contacts (allows the body to directly control the lens aperture setting)
  • It flashes because the menu setting to allow the lens aperture ring has not been enabled
  • This happens because all current Pentax dSLR cameras feature the "crippled" KAF2 mount. The crippled mount differs from the version on your older film camera in that the mount is not capable of detecting the aperture setting on the lens ring. (Non-crippled mounts have a mechanical linkage to provide this information.)
The lack of mechanical coupling for aperture information means that you are limited to M-mode with your new camera using stop-down metering.

If the lens has an "A" setting, it will work, just set aperture to "A". If it doesn't, it needs to be configured. See link above.
