Equivalent of Kr

Hi

Can somebody suggest which DSLR in the Pentax's current lineup replaced the Pentax K-r. I am trying to replace my K-r to whichever model that superceded it (or equivalent).
Also, if that DSLR is capable to act as a handycam with 1080p capacity.

thanks
S

According to the camera comparison page, the K-r is a beginner camera and the current equivalent is the K-500. You can compare the features of any Pentax DSLR at this link to help you determine which camera meets your needs.

I'd go with the K-30 or K-50 as the equivalent of the K-r. There is also the lower specified K-500, but that is not available in all countries.

Regards

I'd say K-30 as well, that's what I'm looking at "upgrading" to, purely 'cos the K-5 holds it's value so well!

Well, the K-30 is not a current model so rule it out.
The K-50 is the Kr replacement but is a bit of an upgrade at the same time, you get weather seals and two scroll wheels. So in terms of usability the K-50 is better.
The K-500 is a bit of a downgrade to the Kr and is more of an equivalent to the Kx (no focus confirm point) but it does have two wheels. In terms of usability the K-500 lacks some features (while gaining some others).

K-50 would be the direct replacement to the Kr.

Will K-50 handle 1080p videos at good frame rates including night videos? sorry for asking here, I will anyway go through the specs still I have no slightest idea as to what specs to look for in a DSLR to make sure it captures decent videos. I don't Kr did handle night videos or maybe I didn't know how to operate video on DSLR.
If not the kind of videos on a full frame DSLRs at least equivalent to some handycams will help. I am thinking of selling of my Sony handycam as well as I am not able to carry both along. So just thinking of a DSLR (well, not expensive) that can also manage videos.

thanks
