K-r and 64gb SD card compatibility?

I had some trouble when I tried to use a 32gb SD card that I formatted to exFAT.
Basically the camera wouldn't read the card and would only format it back to FAT32.
Firmware v1.12 says it added SDXC support.

From personal experience, can the K-r support a 64gb SDXC card?

Isn't exFAT only designed for 64Gb and larger cards? As long as you format your card in-camera, both the 32Gb and 64Gb cards will work. I've been using a 64Gb sandisk extreme pro in later Pentax bodies (K-30, K-50, K-5, K-3) without issue.

I have a K-r, but never tried a card above 16GB, just didn't find the need.
Anyway, with the latest firmware, I think it should work. But keep in mind that not all formatting is the same, and the camera prefers it one way. It is best to re-format the card in-camera before use. That way, it will be in the state that the camera prefers. I don't see why you would want to force the camera to use a different protocol.
Hope someone chips in with experience with 64GB cards, even though those are rarely used with K-r. They are mostly used with high MP cameras or by videographers

I am using a 64 gig card in my 645z. My issue is the card storage device I use to back up my cards won't read exFAT cards. I'm using a Colorspace UDMA backup unit. Does anyone know if the 645z will accept FAT32? My Windows 7 and 8.1 systems read the SDXC cards without issue, but I like to have triple redundancy before leaving a client shoot.
