Shutter Count reset

Hi,

Is it possible to reset the shutter count for K-r. I bought an old K-r and the Shutter count is around 3000.

Not sure whether it got reset when it was serviced or that's the actual no.of pics taken with it.

Thanks

It's not possible to reset the internal counter, but you can reset the filename via the menu, or just create a file called IMGP0001.JPG in your current folder and it will start at that number.

What you are referring to is the image file count (e.g. IMGP3000), not shutter count which you can never change even if you reset the system.

Internal counter? Basically, No.
A new motherboard, will reset the counter. Basic service/cleaning should not.

But the image file names are based on the last photo taken or the highest number on the card. This might be cleared.

You can set this value to any number you like.
Take a photo *on an empty card*... put the card in your computer and rename that new photo with any starting number you want.
(Or just create a file named IGMP0001.JPG, etc...)
Put the card back in your camera, and your next photo should be incremented off that.

So folks just don't take that many photos. Odd, I'll grant you - but true

It may also have rolled over, as the filenames roll lover at after 9999.
But the internal counter should not rollover and should show an accurate count.

No, if the internal count is 3000 than that is likely to be the actual number. I've rolled the img number over several times on Pentax cameras, and as Adam said you can reset them if you like by changing an IMG file name to a number you select.

I don't believe I wrote anything to the contrary... but OK.

Sorry, written language can be difficult without nuances of the non-verbals - I was agreeing with you.

I would have thought that any sensible camera maker would make it as difficult as possible to reset the shutter count, preferably completely impossible. Resetting the count could be used to commit fraud and sell a camera claiming a lot less use than it has actually had. The really unscrupulous might even try to pass off a used camera as a new one.

If the OP is still around:
How are you actually determining the shutter count?
