Photos from the K-r

Every other camera specific forum seems to have a thread like this so I thought I'd start one for this great camera - to show off what it can do.

Taken with DA HD 55-300mm

Sure. Let's go I'm enjoying that 12MP sensor more than I thought I would.

I got a K-r as a backup from the Marketplace and it arrived yesterday. Image Quality (IQ) that I've seen so far is above my expectations and it seems a little easier to handle/hold than my K-50. It seems to chew through the batteries twice as fast, though. I'm really pleased with it and my plan is to use it as the everyday camera, reserving the K-50 for reshoots/final versions.

I've only got a test shot to offer the thread: tonight's sunset. The lens was one of those ubiquitous 35-80mm FA zooms that were kit lenses for the MZ film cameras, $29 average on the Marketplace.

So ... a toast to resurrection and redemption!

Just got the 18-135mm so took it out for a spin at the weekend - sure breathes new life into K-r!

Seriously good-looking camera, too. The sensor produces gorgeous images and I prefer the handling/feel/weight over the K-50.
The K-50 sensor is, however, noticeably superior and that camera has new features beyond just the WR aspect.

That said, I'm gonna stick to the plan where the K-r sees most of the action and the K-50 gets brought out for more "serious" work.

So, pics OF the K-r rather than FROM it!

What I'm liking is the K-r image sensor. It's still sharp and resolution enough especially for 5 years old, but all too soon the 24 and 55MP monsters will be normal.

It's a pity the 800px resolution limit won't show the "pop" this Pentax-M 28mm F3.5 does to scenes like this picture:

A Makinon F2.8 PK mount. At first I thought it was a typical Makinon: well-built but with iffy optics and I had to straighten a bent aperture lever. Testing has shown it has a weird creamy glow wide-open (in macro mode or not), but sharpens up right away at F4 and stays sharp pretty much edge to edge. Colours are fine, so long as the sun is behind you, otherwise blacks fringe to purple-ish. It was part of a package I bought to get something else, but I'm keeping it.

I agree with most points in the review:

I like how each cat has a bowl matching its size, and the contented look on Mom.
I have an attractive Maine Coon and have to resist photographing every unusual pose he strikes, which is several per day.
