First serious attempts (but not as good as Rense shots)!
Posted By: Iris, 05-05-2010, 04:22 AM

A few months ago I bought the Panagor macro 55mm F/3 for macro-photography, but because of the wintertime I did not try this lens yet.

Rense became very enthusiastic after testing my lens for a few shots and bought a similar lens!

Some weeks ago I bought this lens, a K-mount Vivitar 55mm f2.8 1:1 macro. This lens was made in several versions under several different brand names:
I know of the M42 Panagor 55mm f3 - notwithstanding it's smaller max aperture it's the really the same lens - and I've seen pictures of the Vivitar 55mm f2.8 with M42 mount too.

After trying the above mentioned Panagor on the K-7 for a few shots, I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality as seen on the LCD screen of the camera.
Yesterday I was with Rense in our coastal dunes, and I finally had some time and opportunity to try macro-photography myself. Not so stunning as Rense shots, but not to bad for a first serious attempt!
For these hand held shots, I used the pop-up flash of my K-7 with Rense's DIY macro flash diffuser .

Ah....that's how you gain your reputation points!

No problem of course, although I am not sure if I am really happy with my picture
Yeah, thank you for unmasking me as a reputation point hunter.......

Well done! Great for first time out, I must say. I sense many more amazing macros in the future.

Thanks for the link to the detailed how-to! Looks like lots of fun to make, too. And less awkward than an external flash. I'll have to make one and experiment.
You should make one...when you have one, it's really fun to do

This is a brilliant idea for this how to diffuser. Would never of thought of it. Looks like a good ring light substitute. Should have this posted on the forum so everyone can see this.
