Tim, these are great. I like the first two especially.
What kind of snake is it?

Thanks. I believe they are both northern copperheads from what I can tell of their markings

Great shots!

I think that your snake is a Northern Water Snake. They're often mistaken for copperheads and cottonmouths.

One easy way to distinguish between them is to look at the eyes... (If your lens allows you the luxury of getting that close ). The pupils of cottonmouths and copperheads are vertical, elliptical slits, like cat eyes, while a watersnake's pupils are round.

Large watersnakes can deliver a nasty bite and they are usually very aggressive when handled in the wild. This I know from experience

Yep, that's a water snake of some sort, I see them all the time when I fish the upper Meramec river here in Mo. Nice shot of it by the way, hopefully I can get a few shots like that next time I go fishin' !!
