Two poppies
Posted By: xs400, 07-28-2007, 05:30 PM

I recently aquired a +3 close up filter. These are 2 shots taken with my K100d and the 18-55mm kit lens fitted with the +3 close up filter. Both pictures were shot at f/8, but the lower shot seems to be too soft. Maybe I should just get a Macro lens. I would appreciate comments on the 2 pics.
Thanks,
Frank

Beautiful colours and compositions Frank. I agree the lower one seems a little over soft but with a shallow depth of field v depth of the flower from that angle I guess a lot isn't going to be in sharp focus. The first is sharp in the centre of the flower and brings out its detail.

Nice work .... I had issues with the kit lens and using the Close-up filters (although I screwed the +1,2 and 4 together to see how they performed ... I had problem with excessive vignetting though.

Centre came out nice and the outside was dark as anything ... like looking through a tunnel.

Your's came out well though ... seeing as you had good lighting (I wasn't so fortunate).

lol ... and here I had thought you spelt "puppies" incorrectly in your thread title, expecting to see something very different....

I find yellow subjects to be the hardest to shoot (maybe you too, and that's why you used this as your test). Perhaps the second is a tad soft, but I'd say it has better dynamic range of the yellow + red.
