help with car indentification

Can anyone tell me what kind of car this is? I suppose I could go back to it and get shots of the front end and back end to help me figure out what it is but I was randomly driving around back roads when I shot this and I'm not entirely sure where it is. My efforts at internet searching so far haven't been sucessful as most car shots are from the front, back, or such an angle as to include the front end. I'd be totally trespassing to even get a look at the front end, let alone of a shot of it. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

The overall shape looks right but some of the trim detail (what's left of it anyway) doesn't quite match up. But if I can definitively say Chevy that'll work for me (titling purposes). Thanks for the help Lowell and the compliment Jim.

I agree, it looks like a 1956 Chevrolet. I'm leaning towards a 210, not a Bel Air. In 1956, Chevrolet produced the 150, 210 and the Bel Air. They all look very similar and share the same body stylings. Take a look at this link. Very close other than the placement of the mirror.

Yeah it looks a lot like a 56 Chevy 210. The little chrome flares behind the wheel-well usually came on Bel-air's but I've seen pics of them on 210's.

It's not just that chrome flare behind the wheel well but the one above it as well, where the two colors of paint meet. Thanks a lot all. I appreciate the assistance. I'm planning to submit this to a local competition and wanted to call it "Still Life with a Chevy." It would be embarassing if it was a Buick or something.

Mel - I really dig this shot and the PP. This is very well done and a nice counterpoint to the ususal shots of shiney new (or old) cars - like I take.

Thanks Jer. I'm going through something of a hyper-saturated rural decay period. I guess as my own counterpoint to all the Urban Decay shots you see around. Washington DC isn't much for urban decay, and the parts that are, certainly aren't areas I would go to alone in daylight, let alone with a couple Gs worth of camera gear ya know?

I think the relic of our modern age that is sitting on the top of the boxes provides an interesting historical counterpoint. Nice shot Mel! Good luck with it in the competition.

Yesh the chrome accent just behind the front wheel well and the mirror ontop of the fender is rare. I know I have seen the mirrors that close to the windshield (as opposed to on the door) and in front on the '56 or '57, though probably not on the Bel Air.
I would bet it is not a '55 year model at all and if it has the big rubber nubs on the bumper just below the headlights, you should bet it is a 1957.

Yeah Mike I saw that too. Quite the span of time in that one image, lol. Thanks everyone for the help. I was pretty sure that there'd be a few people that would be able to tell me what this was. I want to go drive around back roads looking for more junker cars now.
