Classic (i.e. Cliched) Tourist Photos of Golden Gate
Lens: DA 15, 40 and 70 Camera: K20D Photo Location: GGB Overlook

Some pretty standard stuff from our brief jaunt to the SF area while visiting our daughter in Palo Alto. What a beautiful place - a great place to have family for the excuse to visit.

I love the both bridge shots; the other two aren't bad, either, but they certainly are over-sharpened. The second could also use a slight rotation to the right. The third is my favorite. The only recommendation I'd have here is a slight crop to get rid of some of the sky and the fence.

That fence is in every tourist shot of the GG Bridge (mine included) unless you put a long lens on a tripod and take the shot from up where the BMX kids are always doing tricks near the war emplacement and breaking their arms (like one time I was there).

You'd think they'd put something as functional but more...elegant in one day.

You're absolutely right - I used a much too heavy hand with the Clarify tool and both 1 and 4 came out entirely too brittle. Here more natural versions - produced with a slight bump in constrast and slight sharpening.

Yeah the fence is an issue and the sort of barnyard look to it struck me when were there. There is a higher lookout on the bridge, but we were there in the morning and the shots I made weren't usuable.

Thanks much for the comments.

Yeah, Jools, the area is remarkable in many ways. I'm glad you enjoyed the memories.

Thanks, buddy. Yeah, the fence was a problem that I couldn't avoid at this vantage point. Besides it was blowing what seemed like 50 kts and we were frozen to the bone (I forget how many climates co-exist in the bay area), so it was "shoot first, ask questions later."
