DIY Macro - toothpicks, old trick but first time I have tried it. I had seen a couple of folks on here mention it so I thought I would give it a try. I attached a reversed FA 50mm to my DA 40mm. Click for larger image.

Great composition, not bad outcome. It's a tad too soft in the foreground, though- F8 would have probably worked much better. What's impressing me is that it doesn't even look like it was shot at that high of an ISO...

Good try Ed - these come out great when done right, and this one shows you can get what you want in focus.
The thin DoF is difficult to appreciate in this instance because of the distracting toothpicks that are out of focus in the field, getting in the way of those in focus (vying for attention to be the subject of the image).

Adam and Ash, thanks both for the input. Constructive criticism is hard to get from friends and family, it's nice to have a forum like this where folks seem to want to help you improve your photography.

Interesting. The main reason I am getting a K-X is for macro work.
