Orton vs Reduced Clarity
Lens: Vivitar 55/2.8 1:1 macro + 93mm extension tubes Camera: K20d Photo Location: Woensdrecht, NL ISO: 100
Posted By: Rense, 06-03-2010, 09:14 AM

This one is my entry for P52 this week (you can still enter, it can be found here!!!). For P52, I submitted a version with reduced clarity, like the first one here below. After Steve asking if I ever do some Orton conversion in my Betula in Abstracto thread, I thought I'd give it a try on this photo. And I think it works quite well! It's even better than the reduced clarity version.

What do you think???

Oh well, Rense...You ace'd me and anything I might contribute to the P52 forest challenge. These are brilliant. Shot myself in the foot with the Orton suggestion...ouch!

Steve

BTW...my vote goes to the Orton version...

These tree's must have been pretty small to warrant the use of the 55mm macro AND 93mm of extension tubes!

Yeah, a stupid mistake. Blame on me, blame on me........

Made without the tubes, of course!

You will and have gotten a mixed reaction on which is better. There is a definite glow in the second image. Many do like this, but for projection and computer appearance, it can't be beat if you want a dreamy soft atmosphere.

More nice work Rense.

i'm going to have to go with the orton effect. The first one has a funny texture on the blue sky coming through the trees at the top of the page.

Well, that's difficult, Rense. I like both, but if I had to choose one to hang on my wall, I'd pick #1. Both are quite nice, though.

That's because the white of the sky is glowing past its area and into the trees, and that's why you should try and avoid white sky areas in your images.

Hi Dave, thanks for your thoughts!

Thank you Iris. I think I like the Orton one better because of the retained details in the leaves....
