Bee on Lavendar
Posted By: Bramela, 08-06-2007, 01:42 PM

Took this photo in my garden at the weekend. Bee on Lavender.
Thought I would post it to espouse the result I achieved with the
Tamron 70-300 Di LD in macro mode. Am pretty satisfied with it really, however am interested in purchasing the Pentax 100mm 2.8 (when the Treasurer/wife agrees!)

That turned out nice, I like it.

I have a new appreciation for that too. Yesterday I was chasing a bumble bee around on some lavender with my Vivitar 75-205mm (manual focus) with some tubes on it. It all is a bit much to handle for chasing a bee! Focus, set exposure....damn bee moved again. Start all over! I had fun anyway, even though I only got one shot that turned out *ok*.

Nice crisp shot. Your Tamron 70-300 gives you good results. I was chasing some bees around on my knees the other day. They just happened to be concentrating on some ground cover plants. Ended up with the same problem as Fritz though + sore knees.

Having tried myself to take photos of some bees, I know how difficult it is and you did very well. Excellent sharp photo, well done.

From the composition however, it would be even better if the bee would not be right in the middle and would have a bit more space in front of the bee. Here your bee can't breath.

I hope you did not take it wrong, Bramela. It is just meant as a hint how to make them even better.

I am still making the same mistake myself. Once you get a new macro lens, the first thing you try out is to get as close as possible, but often, a bit more distance from the subject gives more space aound the subject and better results.
