Posted By: roscot, 11-28-2006, 07:02 PM

Pentax K10D ,Pentax smc P-FA 35mm f/2 AL 1/180s f/7.1 at 35.0mm iso100

Portrait of Harry. My favorite (and most willing) subject.

Main flash on the right side - Pentax AF280T on auto mode with a Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer mounted, off camera to the right

Fill flash Sigma EF500DG Super in manual slave mode @1/8th power, off camera Up and to the left, with a Lumiquest Soft Box mounted.

What do you all think?

That seems to work very well. The eyes, the ear chest and collar details all come out fine. No area looks excessively lighted. Beautiful subject too. Two thumbs up.

Hi there!
Beautiful photo of a beautiful dog!

the overall lighting effect from the two flashes works perfectly for me. The picture is well balanced lighting-wise.

The only thing that makes my eyes go a bit funny is that the dog's eyes are each illuminated by a different flash so the little white dot in the left eye comes from a slightly different angle than the little white dot on the right eye. I don't know what the opposite of "cross-eyed" is, but there might be a bit of an illusion here from those white dots. It almost looks to me that the two eyes aren't looking in the same direction.

Unfortunately I'm not enough of an expert to know what the fix would be.

Any Ideas? Other than that, it's a great portrait.

Hi Alan!

I love it! It doesn't appear 'flashy' at all and the post-processing you did suits the photo to a T. I like the little spot of gold. Harry is beautiful, too!

Give Harry a treat! He deserves it for enduring both of those flashes going off!

Hi Alan, this is a great shot. It looks so adorable! I recalled your previous post of this dog on the bed with a toy. This shot certainly looks more bright and cheerful. Nice animated innocent look there.

As Tracy has said, not flashy at all. Great shot

How old is your dog? Looks like it has cataract in both eyes...

Thanks Greg. Your right about the catch light. I'll take a crack at cloning one later.

He is going to be 8 the end of January. Yeah he doesn't see to well. He has the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes as well as some retinal deteriation. Not uncommon in older Eng. Cockers.

Very nice job with the flashes, all the detail is clear which is tough to do with a black and white subject. Usually one or the other loses detail, you managed it beautifully.
