Lighting by Sundown
Posted By: McD, 08-08-2007, 04:12 PM

One of my favourite times to take pictures, I'm sure among others as well. All three pictures taken with Tamron 70-300mm I belive. Comments welcome,

Kyle.

Yes the 2 "Golden Hours" are some of the best times to shoot and many have crawled out of bed at 5 AM to take advantage of the morning light as well as the evenings.

The back lighting and shallow DOF of the flower shot is great. Nicely captured.

If I may suggest, I think you were using an auto exposure mode to shoot the sunset. Almost all cameras metering systems have a tough time with the complex lighting of a sunset (as well as many other scenes) and IMO can only be shot in full manual mode. Auto has a tendency to expose the wonderful reds and oranges as very yellow. Sometime try shooting a sunset in manual and hit the 'green' button then under expose the shot by 2 or 3 stops and see what happens.

Actually the Sundown shot was shot in manual, I am not a fan of shooting any other way. It was a very orange out that particular night. Thanks for the comments.

Sorry, It just appeared at this end that the top part of the sunset was a bit on the yellow side. May just be my monitor or the fact that the sun was still quite a awhile before actually setting. I like the shaft of light rising out of the top of the clouds.

Great colour! I like them all. The orange sunset shot is fantastic! Colours like that don't last for long; you were in the right place at the right time.

#1 is a great shot and the colors on the sunset is a nice capture as well , appears almost biblical as if a heavenly being is about to pop out of the clouds.
