My first shots with the DA* lenses!
Posted By: codiac2600, 08-09-2007, 01:23 PM

Ah it's time to show you just how wonderful these lenses are and hopefully they impress you just as much as they have impressed me.

My feelings are that the 50-135 is the better of the 2 lenses in terms of sharpness and image rendition. The bokeh is almost like having a zoom limited lens and it's just oh so satisfying to look at. The 16-50 is wonderful as well, but after looking at the shots and sitting back I can see how difficult it was to make this lens as good as it is. Going from that wide to 50mm is a tremendous feat and the quality is superb for it's zoom ability.

Here are the shots and some exif information. ENJOY!

50-135, f6.3, 1/200, 115mm

50-135, f4.0, 1/200, 135mm

50-135, f4.0 1/320, 135mm

50-135, f2.8, 1/640, 135mm

50-135, f4.0, 1/100, 80mm using AF540 flash and Gary Fong WhaleTail diffuser

All same as above but 1/160 and 135mm

16-50, f3.5, 1/1000, 50mm

16-50, f5.6, 1/100, 50mm

16-50, f3.5, 1/1000, 50mm

Well thats all for now until I go back to work and if they haven't sold the lenses yet, but from what I have tested these lenses are fabulous, but hey I'm easily impressed by the image rendition. You can see the shots at near full size on my flickr account which is posted below my sig pic.

All images were shot with my K10D, ISO 200, in RAW and converted with adobe camera raw 3.7.

C&C is welcome!

Codiac, your 50-135 is just a superb lens, judging from your shots. It's got it all,
wonderful color, great detail, terrific bouquet and a wide open, bright look.
You're a lucky guy. Enjoy it, pal. The other lens , as you mentioned is close to
the quality of the 50-135. Also a really nice lens, but I sure would love someone
to drop that 50-135 in my Christmas stocking! Regards, Freddy

Actually these aren't mine but I will be picking up the 50-135 asap. I have some connections you see and I get to play with things all the time, but my camera store in town doesn carry both of these lenses if anyone is interested.

Yes the 50-135 is the perfect portrait/wedding/fun lens and it really does have an amazing image rendition that I've not seen from any other lens. If this is what pentax has to offer for the future we are all sitting on a gold mine.

For me the 16-50 would be perfect. Weather sealing to go with my K10D for use in a drift boat in worsening weather, perfect to get fish shots of my buddies. The only problem is THEY don't have one to get pictures of my fish! I was really hoping it would be a terrible lens so I wouldn't have to try to figure out how to afford one, if you know what I mean:-). Looks like that isn't going to happen.
