Getting the hang of this superb Macro lens.
Lens: Tamron 90mm f2.8 Camera: K-7
Posted By: pcarfan, 06-21-2010, 04:33 PM

These were taken today. I am getting more comfortable with the lens now. I want to use it not just for getting close but to showcase it's creamy bokeh.

Good stuff.
You just missed the focus on #4 and 5, but the lens is sure a keeper.
Well done.

pcarfan, nice bokeh. Are these a bit underexposed? What does the histogram look like? (My work monitor usually darkens images.)

Since the lens is relatively fast, it should be useful in other areas.

Dan.

Thank you. The Tamron is a superb lens, but there really is no such thing as a bad macro (1:1).

Getting the focus right is pretty hared indeed. Balancing the dof and diffraction is a challenge. I am not using the tripod, and that would be needed to kick it up another notch.

Thank you for your comments, Ash, much appreciated.

They arfe about a stop underexposed, but I sort of like that look as it avoids those bright specular spots. Thank you very much for the comments.

Very nice series.

Underexposed - not on my MBP but then the Macs have superb screens. On my wife's Acer or daughter's XPS Dell it would definitely look darker.

Tamron 90 - is also a 'cut your throat' sharp portrait lens. This lens in on my camera more than any other I own. And it does have a wonderful creamy bokeh which helps with it's versatility.

The first shot is outstanding with contrasting colors of subject and background.

Getting to know your lens is important on what it can deliver on different times of the day with different apertures.

It is shockingly sharp with amazing bokeh to boot. I really think it is very close the voigtlander 125mm in rendering. A Great lens.

That is my favorite as well, I have a bunch of shots of that bug, unfortunately somehow the camera setting had changed to 'jpeg only' and I only shoot in RAW and that image was taken at iso800, wish it was RAW

I am still very much learning the lens.

Good to hear. I guess I got lucky with the petal framing the fly, which makes it more interesting. Thanks.

Thank you....about the title, I think from where I was I think this is an improvement. The title may be a bit presumptuous, but I was excited to see me getting better with these macros...I know they are no where near what's possible, but kind of got excited with the results, as it is an immense improvement for me.

Thanks for the comments.

Good shots. You did this without a tripod? Wow!
It's a very good lens, I'm totally hooked on it. Not only for macro, but also for portraits and action shots.

BTW, I think you should clean your sensor.

Yeah! the sensor needs major cleaning. I was changing lenses a LOT recently.

I didn't use a tripod, but other than that first shot all others were done with the Sigma ring flash though.

Tamron does very well for portraits too. I even tried it for birding when I was taking the above images, this guy came and sat on this branch close to me, I wish I had the 300mm
