Mantid Fly
Lens: FA-100 Macro Camera: K-10 Photo Location: Dundee, IL ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F4

Sometimes nature just hands you a great find. In this case, a mantid fly landed on my back door. I eventually moved it - and it landed on the trim. It stayed still for me to play around with apertures and flash settings. I knew these insects existed, but had never seen one. If it stayed in the garden, I'm sure I would never have seen it.

It's a mandid fly, related to lacewings. Just an inch long.

Camera is hand-held, I didn't want to take time to get a tripod set up.

Stopped way down to f.22 for better depth-of-field (should have played with shutter time, too):

Oh boy, these are tiny thumbnails! You should embed the full-size image located here: PentaxForums.com - TER-OR's Album: Insects - Picture

Very detailed over all!

I've swapped the images for the full-sized ones.
Thanks, I was afforded plenty of time to snap pictures though the f-stops. I should take the time to learn more completely how the flash works, too.
