Blue & gold Macaw portrait!
Posted By: mikerigel, 08-12-2007, 09:08 AM

This is my wife's new baby... in both sense since he's only 10 weeks old! He's just adorable and I understand why she just couldn't resist at the price. (She got it for $500, some of you might know those birds can easily reach $1000... )
Anyway, I put my F 50mm f/1.7 on the K10 and took a few pics.
He's so easy to shoot, very good personality....

1/125s f/2.4 at 50.0mm iso200

Comments welcome! both on the photo and the bird!!

here's 2 more taken with the mighty 77 limited....

1/90s f/6.7 at 77.0mm iso200

And watch out, the next photo was taken at the horrible ISO 1600 from K10D..
the light was just too bad I had to use it... Photo is just cropped for web, no noise reduction used or anything else...

1/15s f/3.5 at 77.0mm iso1600

Great shots. I really like the subject matter. I have an african grey parrot. he's about 18 years old. You have to just love parrots dont you?

Actually, I don't know much about them, my wife does... her parents always had parrots and other exotic birds growing up. But I like him. And I just edited my first message, he is 10 weeks old, not 10 months old! Anyway, hes still a baby since they live about 70 years..

*Whew* these are beautiful Mike. The detail on your first shot is excellent. And I LOVE the bokeh of the 77 ltd. Mighty fine lens that I also enjoy. If I could convince myself I *need* more than one 50mm prime, I might be tempted by the f 50 1.7. But I have the fa 50 1.4 and I don't use that enough as it is.

Wow - colors are super. I can see this may be you favorite rainy day subject for sure. I agree on on the bokeh comment as well.

Nice sharp focus on the eye, and the bokeh is very nice as well. And bright colors of course!

I think it's funny that people cringe at using the 1600 iso. The quality on that shot is better then the 200 asa Fuji print film I was using a few months ago.

Beautiful, impressive shots of a darling baby. Still growing in the pin feathers on the chest. Macaw eye markings are so beautiful. Congratulations to both of you for the new addition. We are cockatoo and African Grey folks, but love the beauty of the Macaws.
