I think no eyes, no smile...no keep, other than a family snapshot.

Oh yeah for sure I see what your saying about the smile and eyes but this was an unwilling subject so I didn't have much choice I am however interested in quality feed backs if anyone gets what I'm saying...pretend shes smiling if you have to haha

Ignore the eye/smile comment - too many cheesy portraits around for my liking.

This would have been greatly improved as a moody portrait if you'd used bounce flash, preferably off the wall, in this case.

Otherwise, you did well under the reluctant circumstances to get the focus close to the eyes, even if they weren't looking up!

Frogfish - I already knew that, photography is what I'm new to however but thanks for the compliment .

RobA_Oz- Thanks man I will look into the bounce flash concept. I am very new so I am starting from the ground up basically.

I like the subject's pensive pose, but the background is horrible. A window blind and a blue thing make this a family snapshot, not a portrait.

Some eye contact and a sign of happiness does not equal "cheesy".

Does anyone else think the photo looks a little soft?

It's extremely soft. But it kinda works. My opinion, not a bad shot, not a great shot. I could certainly take a worse shot, but I could possibly take a better one. Bottom line, if you like it, then, well, like it. If not, move on.

Agreed, but too many pictures like that are. No offence meant, but the point I was making is that you can tell a good (and less common) story without those elements.

Much of the background could also be easily "vignetted" away, too, to answer another point.
