Montreux Jazz Festival 2010
Posted By: tcom, 07-04-2010, 11:09 PM

Hi

Well, a year is over since my last thread here with my concert photos of the Montreux Jazz Festival 2009.

This years edition opened today, an opportunity for me to get back, and give me another try at concert photography, not always an easy task.

Having no photo pass, I am only allowed to take photos at the free concerts, so less known artists.

I started today with a concert from "Craig Stephens Band". In fact, a bar along the quais of Montreux where the festival takes place, added a scene within the bar. Unfortunately, the mounted the scene in such a way, that the musicians are strongly backlight nearly the whole afternoon, which does not make it an easy task.

Thank you for the comments.

Not only the background makes her stand out, her song, voice and performance were really amazing, but that is more difficult to bring through in photography.

Then came "River Cities Jazz" (USA).

Unfortunately, the musicians were hiding behind the note stands, letting not a lot of possibilities for photos:

Thank you Georg.

Ready for more?

6th July

I will only show photos of one single band for this day, "Simon and Maria". They did a wonderful show, so I stayed there during their whole concert and enjoyed their music. The time spend there also allowed me to try different things.

As the sun was getting lower and lower, I tried a different point of view, does it work?

Thanks, Dominique - I always look forward to your Montreux shots. I dig jazz above all music, and although I'm not sure all these folks you've captured are playing jazz, I long to go to Montreux - but my wife won't let me.

Thank you Jer. You are right, most of these folks do not play jazz. There are quite a lot of Jazz Big Bands performing at the festival, but most of these do seem to like to play hidden behind a forest of music stands, making photography difficult. The other bands are much easier to photograph.

Sorry for the delay, I was quite busy between work, the festival, and sorting the photos.
