Montreux Jazz Festival 2010
Posted By: tcom, 07-04-2010, 11:09 PM

Hi

Well, a year is over since my last thread here with my concert photos of the Montreux Jazz Festival 2009.

This years edition opened today, an opportunity for me to get back, and give me another try at concert photography, not always an easy task.

Having no photo pass, I am only allowed to take photos at the free concerts, so less known artists.

I started today with a concert from "Craig Stephens Band". In fact, a bar along the quais of Montreux where the festival takes place, added a scene within the bar. Unfortunately, the mounted the scene in such a way, that the musicians are strongly backlight nearly the whole afternoon, which does not make it an easy task.

This is some really impressive photography. All the shots are so crisp. I'm using the same K-7/DA*50-135 combo, but I feel like my shots don't often come out so sharp.

These are great shots, very professional. Maybe the band should hire him as their official photographer!

There must be a secret. My 50-135 on my K10D sometimes takes pics that look like they came from a compact P&S!

Thanks for the comments. Not all my photos are as sharp as these, but thankfully, these concerts lasts quite a while, allowing to take many photos and choose among the best ones when sorting.

Most bands did indeed contact me to ask the permission to use the photos on their websites, the most asked are of course the ones showing them with the logo of the Montreux Jazz Festival. A few bands even asked if I would be interested to cover other concerts.
