New Mexico 14 pics - our trip through the Land of Enchantment
Lens: varies Camera: kx or k20 Photo Location: taos, alberquerque, santa fe
Posted By: mike.hiran, 07-07-2010, 06:35 PM

New Mexico wasn't really on my radar until my g/f mentioned her friend had a great trip there. I've always loved the high desert in Oregon with the tougher climate making any life that could survive the extremes seemingly more admirable and beautiful. Initially I was wanting to see White Sands and Carlsbad, but with our fairly short trip (10 days, 2 of which were flight days) that would have been too hectic. We decided then to focus on culture (Indian Pueblos, art galleries, historical trips). Here's a bit of what we saw....

Sunrise @ the Abominable Snowmansion Hostel in Taos

San Francisco de Asis

Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi

Hot Air Balloon over the Rio Grande

A Vietnam Memorial near Taos

Cave dwellings and a Kiva @ Bandelier National Monument

El Santuario De Chimayo

blooming cactus

art in a sculpture garden near Taos

Santa Fe Railyard District (farmers market)

A day at the spa in an arsenic pool

the magical Taos Pueblo

adobe (no, not the software) at Taos

words of wisdom...

My pleasure! The Pueblos (also went to Acoma as well) are wonderful places and it's good that their cultures and arts are maintained.

Thanks a lot! If there is one thing that I'd like to get better at is to see things differently and to grow as a photographer. Thanks for commenting!

I think we got lucky we went when we did as the flowers were blooming everywhere. It's quite striking to see such vivid colors in a desert.

Taos really is an amazing place. We ended up staying at Arroyo Seco which is just outside of Taos since this ski area is pretty much vacant in the spring and the hostels rates were very low. But it was only a 10 minute drive into town, so it was very convenient. I was sad that we had to leave after only a few days there - we had just began to discover the different layers that area had to offer.

Very nice. Some of the flare blobs can easily be cloned out.

Thanks much! I really loved seeing the life in such vivid colors in the middle of a pretty hostile environment.

Yeah, I should. I'll probably do that later as well as adjusting the saturation level downward in the first shot. I think I was rushing a bit just trying to get through them all so I could start working on some other projects. Thanks for commenting!
