Owls About That?
Lens: DA55-300 Camera: K20D Photo Location: Ireland
Posted By: rparmar, 07-08-2010, 06:27 AM

These photos are from last year and I forget where I took them. An Irish wild bird sanctuary was having a show at an outdoor festival, which provided a good opportunity to use the DA55-300mm, a great lens I rarely have a use for.

If someone is more knowledgeable than me on this, please correct my species IDs.

Barn Owl

Scops Owl

Little Owl

Eagle Owl

Saker Falcon

From what I can tell, with searching the names, you've got them on spot Robin. And nicely taken photos too. Great detail in each one. I thought the Eagle Owl was at frist look, a Great Horned, but after research I found out why I thought that, they are related. TFS.

Some of my favourite birds. Beautiful shot of the Barn Owl in particular. Cropping is too close in places but I guess that's because these were taken in a falconry or zoo ? Some lovely shots in the series.

Yes, these were at a public outdoor display so there were other people, handlers etc. floating around and some background distractions. I planned the shots to eliminate those problems.

I had a species guide from the sanctuary, but a lot of owls look much the same to me!

Thanks everyone for the comments.
