hummingbird moth....or how can i make dave m dizzy...
Lens: 55-300mm Camera: k-x Photo Location: backyard

....(not macro)... these may not be anywhere near my best shots... but this bugger had me running around like curly of the three stooges.... early morn... about 8am... limited ambient light.....( i REALLY need an 80-200mm f2.8).. $$$$ lol........

I like 2 and 4, just the moth and a tiny bit of the Lantana. All are nice shots.

I missed a chance at one of these a few days ago, it appeared and vanished too quick to even try and get a shot. I really wanted that shot too, I don't see these moths often.

When I first saw this I thought it had to be made up... part moth, hummingbird, shrimp... where do this things live? Nice image by the way...

Wow those are amazing. Not only from a photographic standpoint but the insect itself. I must confess to having never seen anything like that. Very nicely done.

Thanks for the wiki link and video. Pretty amazing insect. It's like a flying prawn.

I must confess, that when I first saw your post I almost showed them to my wife who happened to be eating shrimp. But I couldn't because that would have been the end of her meal and meant I would have ended up in the doghouse (she hates macros of insects!)

Great photos, love the colours but would have to be one of the weirdest creatures I've ever seen.
