"Did you ever use your pop-up flash for a wild bird shot?"
Lens: M 135/3.5 Camera: K20d Photo Location: Norway ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F3.5

Must be the longest title I ever gave to a photo . However, the only way to get a decent shot of this fellow was to use the built-in flash of my K20d. Guess how close I was....

EDIT: Update, as a reaction to the first two comments! Going further, it will enhance noise especially.....

Very cool! How close?

Obviously, the colors are a bit flat, but there's something special to this shot.

Nice shot, Rense. I am going to guess at 5-6m?
The composition is quite nice for an 'environmental' bird shot, although IMO it might be a little dark. I'm guessing it was dark though!

Hey guys, thanks for the feed back! You're both right: too flat and too dark. So I enhanced it a little - hope you don't mind - and the results are added to the first post. And it was not really dark, about sunset, but this one was sitting on the dark side of the rocks, in quite deep shadow....

Looks good! The lighter parts of the bird look much better IMO.
Do you know what it is? It looks like a Eurasian Oystercatcher to me. We have a similar bird here in Australia called the Pied Oystercatcher.

Yes, it's an Oystercatcher, sure! And thanks again!
