Hi,
Myself and some work mates managed to get out for a quick shoot at lunchtime on Tuesday. Heading to a local swamp park, we were initially disappointed with the apparent lack of birds to photograph. However after persisting for a while I managed to find this Purple Swamphen (P. p. bellus) walking around and snapped a few photos.

Nothing too special, but I haven't used this lens for birds for quite some time, so I was happy to get close enough and get some sharp shots. Mind you it is a big bird...

And here is another of the local swamp denisons, the extremely common Pacific Black Duck:

I'm with Dave - that bird looks as if it were from another planet. The first shot, especially, is terrific, Jason.

Dave, Jer; thanks for your comments
Apparently (according to wikipedia), there is a large population of the European variant of these birds living in Florida, originating from escaped captive birds.
It is a bit of a strange or evil looking thing!

cheers,

They are a very common bird here in Australia around wetland areas.
Called the Waterhen more commonly.

Nice shot, Jason. Whereabouts was this taken? Never mind, I see you are in Perth.
