Hummingbirds...
Lens: Pentax DA*300 Camera: Pentax K20D Photo Location: Ohio
Posted By: Bud, 07-25-2010, 06:04 PM

I started a new job recently and haven't been spending too much time on the internet. I have, however, found the time to chase my favorite summertime subjects around the yard.

Here's a few of my favorites so far this summer... thanks for lookin'!

All with K20D and DA*300... most using 540 flash for fill

Every one of these is excellent. I really like the first. Very different than most I've seen before. Well done in every respect.

I love the bird's expression in the first one, and the three dimensional feel of the second.

Great series!

Your photos are so beautiful! I can't found anything wrong. I would only watch them again and again.

Very very nice.... Think the 3rd one is my fave, both from a compositional and POV aspect.

and congrats on the new job. Guess that means we can't get any more of those awesome chocolate mint bars you brought to the 1st East Coast gathering though huh?

These are awesome Bud,

I had no idea a hummer could open its beak that far. This is not helping my LBA desire for a DA* 300/4.

Thanks! This was the first time I've ever seen one open up so wide... I had been watching it "hawk" insects and I think that there might have been a small gnat stuck in its bill... you can a small black spot on the inside right corner.

Thanks! I wish I could nail that 3D thing more often... I really like that one, too.

Thanks for the comments!

Bud, They are all great, nut that first one really is different and special just because of the pose. Besides being technically superior, the composition is excellent on all of them.

I remember seeing a similar series from you before Bud and distinctly recalled how good they were.
These are just as brilliant mate.
Beautifully captured works of art with such texture and excellent DoF control.
