First post, first Sigma 17-70 shots
Posted By: simonkit, 08-19-2007, 07:20 AM

New to the forums & new to DSLR - to be honest I own the Samsung GX-10 (hope this doesn't get me thrown off the forums). After not being 100% happy with the 18-55 kit lens I quickly bought the Sigma 17-70 which I'm very happy with.

These are my first 2 shots - nothing special I'm afraid, things are pretty difficult in the UK weather-wise so I've had little opportunity to get out & take some landscapes.

Personally I think the Portrait version works best, conveys the depth of the valley.

All C&C appreciated

thanks

Simon

Those are some nice shots Simon and welcome - it is too bad it was overcast as I think the colors would have popped out more. I like both of them actually , that is some beautifull country there well framed. Keep them comming.

Thanks for the comments/feedback

To be honest I'm not 100% happy with the shots & will revist in better conditions so not really putting any further PP effort into these - can't beat getting it right in-camera !!

Hi Simon,

They are nice pictures indeed. I know what you meen about the weather, its been really bad this summer.

Im thinkin about buying the Sigma lens aswell although my kit lens (18-55) is doing a grand job at the moment.

Keep it up

Cheers

Thanks Tom,

See you live in some stunning scenery too - I visit the lakes every year to hike up a few more mountains - favourite must be the Buttermere ridge walk/Haystacks. I always stay in keswick too, normally just on the outskirts in a cottage near the TWA DOGS pub !! Hoping to make the trip up again in September if the weather changes.

Well heres hoping for the weather I was in Buttermere and Crummock water last week, it is fantastic. Got some great shots overlooking Solway and Scotland.

I really want to get up to Scotland before the weather gets really bad and may even plan a trip to Wales. I want to get the new lens before that though

Cheers

I agree. the photo looks significantly more complex and compositionally satisfying in the portrait oriented shot, here.
