Taking the Horseshoe
Lens: DA 300mm Camera: K200D Photo Location: Great Falls Maryland ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/750s Aperture: F8

The kayaker did all the work. I just pushed the button. Wish he had taken the right line through the rapid though. Would have made for a better picture....

It was quite an exciting show. The first shot was right after the kayaker took a header off the falls in the background. It took him a good 5 minutes in an eddy to regroup and continue the run.

BTW, the line in the next to last shot is very very typical. From what I understand there are some rocks at the bottom off to his left so they just about always hug that edge and sorta sideslip down the swell.

Also, the falls above him in the first shot is called "Pummel" for a good reason! I can't remember how many kayakers I've seen go over it upside down...

Thanks for the information. I've only seen that run done once before (7/4/09) and it was down the middle of the fall. Looking back at that shot, I see the rocks you were talking about. The education is always appreciated. (Shot with DA 55-300mm)



and the "Pummel". You can see why I love the maryland side of the falls.....

Great action shots, very interesting to see how wild it can get out there in those waters!
