Critter surprise
Posted By: Nick1946, 08-19-2007, 03:12 PM

I walked up behind this today in the yard and as my wife says I always do-poked it with a stick so it would spread, took a couple of shots and then left it alone---hog-nosed snake...

same here.. garter or water snakes...

It a GREAT pic.. but I would have to have a HUGE lense to get that pic, because I would be across the road about a mile once I saw something like that in my yard!!!!

Awesome shot. I haven't seen a hognosed snake in the wild yet.....like Chako, I only get the Garter Snakes around here.

Thanks all for looking and the comments- I remember seeing one many years ago when I was a young child and thought it was a Cobra!

Nice shot Nick. I thought I knew snakes pretty well, but I've never seen one of these. Thanks for sharing.

I had one of these for a while when i was a kid, a small one, maybe a foot long, very docile animal, never once tried to bite me. They also try playing dead to fool predators too.
