Las Vegas : the Strip by night
Lens: Sigma 17-70 Camera: K20D Photo Location: Las Vegas
Posted By: bdery, 07-29-2010, 06:10 AM

In Las Vegas, the good sights are happening at night. So I went out with my tripod and a lot of patience, and brought these home:

1-Paris baloon at dusk

2-Paris Casino/Opera at dusk

3-Eiffel tower at dusk

4-Venetian

5-Caesar's Palace entrance

6-Eiffel tower and the Moon

7-The Strip

8-Paris Casino at night

Guess at which hotel I was staying :P

Your night shots are excellent- especially 4 and 5. Could you elaborate on your technique?

I love night shots - but I'm never able to get ones as good as these. Great job.

I can vouch that the lighting at most of these classy hotels on the Strip is absolutely brilliant, making photographing them such a dream.

Good work with these - bringing back fine memories of my own trip there many years ago.

Nothing fancy. A tripod, the Sigma 17-70 with program line set to MTF, two seconds timer, and IIRC center-weighted metering set on the well lit subjects. Sometimes exposure compensation if looking at the histogram didn't satisfy me.

The trickiest part was excluding people from the frame. Sometimes I used a longer exposure so they would not be visible.

I'm not sure but I believe some of the dusk shots were taken with the DA 21 LTD, handheld.
