Hamilton Steam Museum
Lens: SMC Pentax DA* 16~50 Camera: Pentax K10D
Posted By: 8540tomg, 08-01-2010, 08:18 PM

Gave the DA* 16~50 a real workout today. In addition to shooting the HMCS Haida I also went to the Hamilton Steam Museum. A fun place for me to visit as one of my ancestors built the 2 huge beam engines which powered the Hamilton Waterworks for many years.

Lots of cast iron and brass in this place.

Thanks Bill,

You're right about the non standard parts. The tour guide said everything was hand made - even the nuts and bolts. No two were exactly alike nor were they interchangeable. Must have been a nightmare when taking things apart for maintenance. You can see they were numbered (5) in the shot below.

For all that these massive engines ran for over 70 years and were used as backups for several years after that time.
