Perth City - L-Plate Photography
Lens: 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II Camera: K-x Photo Location: Perth City ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 4s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Spoons, 08-01-2010, 11:36 PM

Met up with a couple of the fellas from the WA Pentax Users group and wandered around the city for a little while.

I'm still on my learner plates, so each time I go out taking photos I come back and find errors, deficiencies straight away and need to go straight back out for more. Baby steps...

Photo #1 has the settings as stated above for this thread:

Photo #2 - Lens: 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II, Camera: K-x, ISO: 200, Shutter Speed: 10s, Aperture: F8, Location: In the Supreme Court Gardens, of the Perth Council Building

Photo #3 was from up at Kings Park, killing time between work and the evening photo shooting expedition. I foolishly had ISO set to 1600 and hadn't noticed, exposure of 1.3sec, F4.

The third one involved tinkering in Lightroom, as did the first one, to a lesser degree - the second is as shot on the scene.

On hot days wear deodorant. You want any other tips from me? Cab drives hate me for some reason.

1. I think this turn out well, maybe crop some of the top out.

2. Something about this I don't like, maybe over exposed?

3. I think this is a good example of how well the k-x handles a high ISO

I can't imagine why...

Thanks toot... yeah, that second probably is at least a little overexposed. The top rim light is suffering a little from that.

I was surprised by that last one - it didn't cop too much graining. I did a pinch of tidying up of graining in lightroom, but it was pretty sharp already.

Cheers for the advice.

I will say +1 to tootall's comments. I like #1 too.
Another suggestion might be to try and focus on one particular aspect of the subject in each photo - get close and try to remove objects from the photo that do not add to the main subject in some way.

cheers,

Ah yes, good point, thanks goddo31!

I haven't really studied photography theory since high school some time, but I suppose basically you mean to emphasise whatever is the point of the shot then - correct me if I'm wrong.

I think I've thought that to myself at times, that I need to physically go to more effort in the capturing process, which is something I've noticed in others - finding perspectives you might not always encounter naturally in day to day life, that sort of thing.
