Once in a lifetime?
Lens: DA15 Ltd Camera: K7 Photo Location: Gardner Pass, Torres del Paine
Posted By: gfonso, 08-04-2010, 02:37 PM

It was cold and windy as I was climbing Gardner Pass, the highest point in the Torres del Paine circuit. I paused for a breath, turned around, and saw this light beam falling right on Laguna Perros, the glacial lagoon where I had camped the night before.

It was all so hurried and unexpected I had to shoot quickly before the beam disappeared. I could not believe my luck!

I'm not sure if the picture is appealing, but that moment surely made my day.

Almost looks like a special effect in a Biblical Spectacle. Nice catch.

Well there's another reason to keep my DA 15

Did you have time to set up a tripod or was that handheld?

It lasted only a few seconds, so it had to be handheld. I only had time for a couple of shots, this one and another one in portrait orientation. This is the one that I like better. f/10, 1/40s.

Perfect - Cecile B. Demille couldn't have done as well with all the props, lights and gizmos in the world. Remarkable capture.
