Swallowtails... and a few more hummingbirds with DA*300
Lens: DA*300 f/4 Camera: Pentax K20D Photo Location: Southwest Ohio

Hiked around a local metropark this past weekend and found a patch of Joe Pye Weed along a trail that was thick with Eastern Tiger and Giant Swallowtail butterflies.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail - female - yellow form



Eastern Tiger Swallowtail - female - dark form

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail - male - on lantana in my yard
Giant Swallowtail - dorsal view

Giant Swallowtail - ventral view


Ruby-throated hummingbird reaching for the last drops of nectar in the monarda

Justicia brandegeana - Shrimp Plant

Silene laciniata - Mexican Catchfly

Yikes! Beautiful shots all around. The kind i have been trying to get this summer without your success. I will have to revisit these pics a few more times to encourage myself to get back to the butterfly bush.

Thanks! Yes, they're all hand-held. Tripods seem to just get in the way when I'm trying to keep up with hummingbirds

Hard to pick a favourite from such superb pics, but I'll say that the first hummingbrid shot stands out for me.
I'd love a go with a DA*300...maybe one day...
