Babies & Women w/ DA* 50-135mm
Posted By: codiac2600, 08-21-2007, 09:10 PM

Thought I'd run a lens test to see how well the DA* 50-135mm handled in low-light and with a flash and here are the images with review after the shots.

100% crop of right no sharpening!

100% crop of right eye no sharpening!

Newest addition to the family (3 days old)

Boring!

At the bar seeing old friends

Thats it for the pictures and I hope you enjoyed them and I know you're awaiting my critical review so here goes...

The baby shots had only available light to focus which was about 1/15 at ISO 200 and the lens had no trouble obtaining focus and typically got locekd in within 1 second. The 100% crops are ridiculously sharp and I can't even put to words how amazing the lens is so if you haven't tried one please do and be amazed yourself. In the bar the light was around 0.4 seconds at ISO 200 and it locked focus within 2 seconds on average which is astounding number compared to either the Tamron 28-75mm or FA 50 1.4. I missed focus maybe nce and on a typical day at a bar or nightclub I'll miss about 1/3 of the shots even with focus assist from the AF540 flash.

I give this lens a 10/10 and I'll put up some outdoor shots tomorrow hopefully so until then I hope you all enjoyed!

Wow, those are *really* sharp photos! Thanks for the samples and comments. I very much appreciate you taking the time to do this.

Looking forward to more shots from you.

Now, if only my salary can support purchasing one...

I agree. I have been very impressed with the photos I've seen taken with this new lens.

Hi Codiac, first, congratulations on the new addition to the family.
And second....wow! that is one impressive lens.
I have had my eye on this one from the initial announcement as the focal length looks pretty good...but I have only just got the DFA 100 f2.8.
My LBA is not a problem thankyou.
....I don't need it...I don't need it...I don't need it....I
