My first SR pics with the K10D
Posted By: Lance B, 11-30-2006, 05:25 AM

For those interested in whether SR works I posted these on DPR, so I think some may also be interested here. These are my first foray into SR from my new K10D.

K10D + FA*80-200 f2.8 @ f5.6, 85mm, 1/40sec, ISO100, SR on. If we assume the 1/focal length x 1.5 law then this was shot at an equivalent 127.5mm, so it should have been 1/125sec. 1/40 means about 1.5 stops extra.

K10D + FA*300 f4.5 @ f5.6, 1/50sec, ISO100, SR on. If we assume the 1/focal length x 1.5 law then this was shot at an equivalent 450mm, so it should have been 1/400sec. 1/50 means about 3 stops extra.

K10D + FA*80-200 f2.8 @ f5.6, 170mm, 1/50sec, ISO100, SR on. If we assume the 1/focal length x 1.5 law then this was shot at an equivalent 255mm, so it should have been 1/250sec. 1/50 means about 2.5 stops extra

Remarkable, isn't it. Nice shots, too. The FA* matches up very nicely with the IQ of the K10D. I really want to see someone post a really nice K10D/31 lmt shot.

Look Great, Lance

I'm still trying to come to grips with the SR. Just like in the K-M 7D that I use a lot, I'm just never convinced that it *does* anything, since with the right technique I seem to be able to hand hold shots for much more than the 1/FL guide. I also seem to get blurry pictures with SR on at not very drastic focal lengths, sometimes I wonder if it over-compensates.

I guess I'll have to do a lawn mower test before I'm sure.

Thanks for the post.

Hi, Lance! Love the first shot - asides from being a nice technical demonstration of SR it's a *very* nice rabbit! Or hare?! Whatever ... :-)

SR would seem to make a difference. Excellent details in those shots. Cute puppy.

Beautiful Lance

Wow these are great shots! Except when using a tripod, do you see any reason (IQ wise) to turn the shake reduction off? I played with it a bit and didn't see a reason to turn it off, unless of course on a tripod. Just wonder what your thoughts are.

Nice clear shots. Any PP and sharpening or is this out of camera?

Please help me with this explaination. It is not clear to me what you are computing nor your results. Thanks.

SR is really impressive

Those images are great. The SR is really something to think about. I recently took some wedding photos for a friend, Small very dark church. Shot at ISO 800 (Wouldn't go higher... using the DS2 with a FTZ 500 so any higher and TTL will not work). With my 28 - 105 Set between F4 to 6.3 could only get shutter speeds of 1/30 to 1/60 of a second. I was had to lean against walls to steady myself.

I had no plans to upgrade for a while ... but SR would really be useful.

Something to think about.

Thanks Alan.

Yes the SR does seem remarkable.

I really should put the FA31 and take a few, but I have been having such fun discovering the camera that I forget about these other things.

I am still trying to come to grips with the whole camera!

There is so much to learn and not just the new features, but how it behaves compared to the *ist D. Lots to learn.
