Jays vs Rays Baseball
Lens: SMC Pentax K 200/2.5 Camera: K10D Photo Location: Rogers Center Toronto ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/180s Aperture: F3.5

Hi all,

Had a great time with my two sons at the Jays v Rays game today in Toronto. The Jays won the game 1 to 0 with Brandon Morrow (9-6) going the distance for the win and striking out 17 in the process. The dome was closed and the lighting was a little harsh but we did the best we could. Sill processing images but here’s a few:

The starting lineups for today

Major league home run leader Jose Bautista gets ready to swing

Evan Longoria fouls one off

Carl Crawford goes hitless

So does Ben Zobrist

Dan Johnson holds him close to the bag

Brandon Morrow, hero of the day, strikes out 17 Rays today:

Beautifully balanced Morrow held the Rays in check all day long

All shots K10D, SMC Pentax K 200/2.5.

Great capture in the third shot- love how you can see the ball right above the catcher's glove.

Thanks for looking Adam.

Watching on TV at home you forget just how fast the ball gets to the plate.

That's one of the great things about going to a game now and then.

Hi John,

Actually, given my collection of glass, I think the K 200/2.5 was the best choice I had available given my seating location. I was on the first base side, first level, row 24 just inside the bag. My K 300/4 or M 400/5.6, my other options, might have been a better focal length but I would have been wacking the lady in the seat ahead of me in the head all day.

The extra speed of the 200/2.5 let me shoot at ISO 400 which is about as fast as I care to shoot on the K10. It gets too noisy for my taste beyond this level. The K200/2.5 remains my favourite all time manual focus lens. It is so bright it makes it easy to focus. I stuck it on my monopod and for the most part didn't get in the way of the rest of the paying customers.

In any case it was a great game for Morrow and a lot of fun.

Here's a few more:

Overbay gets jammed

Vernon Wells takes a cut

Not sure who this is but it wasn't the one hit the Rays got today.

Carl Crawford goes hitless again

Thanks Formula,

The old K 200/2.5 is plenty sharp.

Too bad the dome was closed. I'm sure the results would have been better if we had some sun that day.

I don't think Morrow's results could have been better under any circumstances - 17 strikeouts and a one hitter. Not bad.

Thanks Dave,

I was a pleasure to watch a maestro at work. A memorable game to be sure. Too bad he lost it at the end but it was a good hit. Even if Hill had knocked the ball down the runner (Longoria) would have been safe at first.
