US Air Force Museum - Snap Shots
Posted By: Sailor, 08-23-2007, 08:20 PM

While visiting my daughter in Columbus last weekend, we drove to Dayton to visit the Air Force Museum. This is quite a facility, showing virtually every AF plane from day 1 in three massive hangers - and the good news is that admission is free. Here are a few shots I took during the afternoon. All were taken at ISO 800 with my travel gear - DS2 and my three DA Limiteds (generally wide open).

Snapshots? I guess I'm getting to dislike that term. I think these are great images. I like the compositions and the rendering is beautiful. Can't beat those limiteds. Good choice for a travel kit! Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed these.

I was going to say ... i didn't realise how massive the B52 is.

Nice series of images.

The prop looks a tad dark to me though.

The Blackbird must have been quite a sight though.

Exceptional images. The USAF museum is a tough place to shot, as the lighting is bad and there are a lot of planes crammed closely together. The nice thing is that they do allow you to use a tripod if you bring it.

Next time you are in the area visit the Presidential Hanger at the muesum. You need to sign up at a desk just past and to the left of the gift shop but it has several planes that served as Presidential planes, including JFK's.

Great shots. I especially like the first one (air intake on an F-104 Starfighter, one of my favorite aircraft of all time).

Really nice shots at ISO 800...I love planes and I love that museum. I have been there twice. The B-36 is a monster...and the B-47 is such a beautiful plane....

Thanks, all, for the kind comments. Seems to me my DS2 does a bit better job at ISO 800 (and a lot better job at 1600) than my K10D - a consequence of the higher res in the latter. I would've appreciated the shake reduction, however, in these low-light suroundings.
