Need opinions

Hello,

I am thinking about entering a photo in the local fair. I would like to get opinions on which of these 2 I should choose. I like the one that has just grabbed the fish. My wife prefers the shot into the sun. Suggestions on cropping would also be appreciated. The size needs to be 8 x 10.

I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this type post.

Thanks for the help.

I'm going to agree with your wife, number 2. The first one is a nice shot as well, but I personally thing 2 is the more appealing one.

I agree... number 2. My first reaction was "wow, that's really cool...". I might crop it with the sun centered and the eagle just left of center with space to fly into...

Maybe something like the attached?

#1 is a nice image, but similar to many that I've seen before.

Great shot... Good luck!

Bud

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond. Good point on the first shot being pretty common.

Thanks for the tip on how to crop it. That definitely looks better.

For #1, I'd crop off some left side (1/2 way to wingtip) and bottom (just above purple highlights...)

For #2, I would crop it vertically, then try to remove the 2 flares at the tail and the black speck at the right (if not cropped off).

Good luck with either!

Have to agree with the majority, #2 would be my choice. I do like the look of the vertical crop over the square one.

Thanks for the tips. I noticed the black spot the other day and initially thought it was just a high flying bird, but now I'm not so sure. I need to check to make sure it's not a spot on the lens or sensor.

Update

Hi,

I'm a little late getting back here, but I wanted to let you guys know that the photo took 4th place out of a couple hundred entries in its division. I was very pleased.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Congrats on that, good job. I entered a lizard in our local fair a month ago and got 2nd place in the Animals category. Feels good don't it...
