Oregon-Washington summer trip
Posted By: scatron, 08-17-2010, 10:49 AM

Took an extended trip through Oregon and Washington this year. We had 3 still cameras, 1 video camera and one combo camera (Fuji superzoom that does both) with us.

The still cameras included 2 Pentax dSLRs:

1) a K20d with either the DA 18-250mm for outside stuff or the Sigma EX DG 24-60 f/2.8 for indoor shooting and

2) a K100d with the DA 10-17mm - our fisheye camera for the trip.

So here's some shots from the trip:

1. Got a good shot of a red-wing blackbird squawking at us in Bend, Oregon:
(DA 18-250: cropped, hand-held at 250 mm 1/250, f/8, ISO100)

2. We passed through Sisters, Oregon, where we bought shirts for the sisters and then get a shot of the sisters with the Three Sisters mountains:

3. The beach is a good place to use the fish-eye:

4 & 5. A fish-eye view from inside a lighthouse:

6. A fish-eye view outside a lighthouse:

7. Visited Lewis & Clark's Fort Clatsop:

8. Got the kids to take a break from climbing on driftwood:

9. Went to Olympic National Park, where the kids completed the Junior Ranger program at Hurricane Ridge:

10. Took a ferry over to Seattle...:

11. where we took the Underground tour...:

I'm going out on a limb and guessing that you really like that 10-17 fisheye, right? Great travel series, I especially liked picture #4.

Yes, it's becoming a favorite.

I entered #4 in the architecture category for the Salt Lake County fair but it only got a 3rd-place ribbon.

That's an excellent picture from inside our lighthouse here in Newport! How did you get it? I ask because all I've ever been allowed to do was to peek up from the ladder. But with the blue skies & few clouds, it really turned out well. Today we're completely socked in by fog and visibility is less than 50 yards.

Again, really great pic from inside the lighthouse!

Derek,

The lighthouse photos are from inside the Yaquina Head lighthouse where the tours take you up the ladder into the lantern room - you can't step into it, but you can be on the top step and see out through the windows.

Here's a photo of my daughter on the stairs - you can see the top of the railing with the cable across to stop folks from walking around up there, but you can get right up in there and get some shots.

Also - sounds like a good day to stay in, listen to the surf and read a book. More often then not, I'll take the coast weather any day. Here in the Salt Lake City area it was 71 when we went to bed last night, but a south wind developed overnight, so it actually got warmer and was 81 when I got up. Now the A/C will be running all day.

Other then a day of rain in Oregon and unusual heat in Seattle - in the 90s - we did pretty well with the weather.
