Does the 1.4x TC affect the AF of the Sigma 70-200mm much?

I have the II version and also shoot a lot of sport and I have been considering a tele - converter.

Short answer - yes. I'm sometimes forced to go without the TC when shooting under lights, as it cuts a stop of light. Then when I get back to the computer I'm surprised at how many more shots are in focus. With the TC on I have to "work" the focus, pumping the AF button a bit sometimes, and it doesn't keep up with the runners as well. But I still prefer using it for the shots of the players on the other side.

I'm just about to edit some soccer shots where I was at 1/350, f2.8 ISO4500, and even then it was flashing at me as it was too dark! Thanks goodness for noise reduction software!
