Got lucky with this young bird sitting on a fence post so managed to drive up pretty close before it flew off...

Thanks Gordan, Bet you had a thrill with that bird and resulting shot.
We have Mississippi Kite here, I live at extreme northern edge of range and have
to rely on periodic incursions to have a chance. Data looks good for that chance.
Hope I can share a shot and compare these beautiful raptors.

Nice shot Gord.

It's amazing how close some raptors will let you get in a car. On foot it is almost impossible.

Thanks guys!

We are very lucky with raptors in South Africa. Black-shouldered Kites are a bit like sparrows they are so common... ok, I don't normally get quite a close as this!!

With this bird I let the auto box pull the car slowly closer stopping every couple of meters to get another photo until I managed to get this one... luckily the bird decided to call just as I taking the shot, then flew off to another perch soon after...
